Game Plot

The player is a 19-year-old girl (Laila) who dreams about the world outside and wants to set herself free by passing through the portal.
To pass the portal she needs to win in the trials game.

Summary

  • This a game that takes place in a location cut of from the rest of the world.

  • years ago, exiled criminals have been sent here.

  • Generations have passed and many of them leave normal lives, yet they still do not have access to the rest of the world.

  • Tattoos and misshapes happen to people as they do wickedness.

  • the main character takes part in trial games to get the opportunity to pass through the portal.

  • Trial games are races that a rider & animal pair partake.​

Wicked Tools

​

  • Catching the other animal with spiky chain. Result in hurting the animal and increasing the wickedness of the attacker and hostility of the victim towards him

  • Using sound to make the ears of animals hurt (blood coming out, screams of pains) losing control. 

  • Using flashes of light or fire to make the animal go blind.

  • Drop spikes on the ground and putting the chain or rope around an animal and dragging on the ground. Very wicked.

  • You can use the blind your own animal and make them not get distracted. But this means that they won’t be as fast and they won't attack the other racers if they get too close.

GamePlay

​

  • during the race riders can use tools to distract or hurt the other riders or animals.

  • based on what tools they choose and how others get hurt the wickedness level of the riders are decided.

  • as the characters get more wicked their sentences and actions will get more cruel.

  • If you hit an animal during a race, it will act more hostile towards you. Even if the racer has not aimed at that animal. this will add a bit of unpredictability.

Neutral Tools

  • Throw the spiky chain around a tree and throwing that tree in the way to hit the animal and rider or use as obstacle to guide to another way.

  • Using noise to scare the animals. 

  • releasing animals like rabbits to distract the other animals.

  • Throwing fish at each other. Which works as distraction for animals but also works on the riders because they are smelly and sticky.

  • Spill oil. Slippery fire inducing.

  • Increase the speed of the other animal so that they cannot make the turn.

  • ​You can use kind words on your animal to make them feel less hostile and faster.

Overview

Laila

19 years old girl. Thin out of starvation.

  • Sharp eyes. fast on foot. Usually disguises as a male to attract less attention and to be able to get information anonymously.

  • Has marking on her forearm but covers them all the time.

  • Paint her face to have the visuals of someone who has made more crimes.

  • Has a postcard with drawing from a scene from the other side of the Portal.

  • Steals to survive and out of habit.

Background

  • Her sin is that she stood silent and watched as her childhood friend was being kidnapped.

  • She was scared that she too would be hurt so she just watched in silence. She said nothing to anyone. Even to the parents of the boy who were searching for him. His body was found days later. Thorn and defiled by clear signs of sacrificial black magic on it.

  • Her markings are for betrayal. The betrayal to the boy and to his family. For the silence that cost him his life and his family everlasting misery.

  • She Collects maps and trinkets. And has a dagger.

  • There are small tattoos of stars shaped on her forearm. She covers them with wearing long sleeves or bandages.

Main Character

World Building

 

  • years ago, exiled criminals have been sent here.

  • Generations have passed and many of them leave normal lives, yet they still do not have access to the rest of the world.

  • Tattoos and misshapes happen to people as they do wickedness.

  • People show their tattoos as a way of showing they are dangerous to avoid being targeted.

  • The portal is the only way out. Only someone who has passed the trials can go through it and it will burn all impurities.

  • The need for the trial is that the person be challenged and come out without wickedness

  • The portal will not accept those with wickedness and burns them. This was a way to stop the criminals from going back.

  • Many still take part of the trial for the adventure and fun of it. As most people need to do crimes to some extent to survive. rarely do people try to go through the portal.

  • The rider and the mammal who win the trial, get the right to pass through the portal

Setting

 

  • The city and the environment around it are locked in by the mountains.

  • The games take place in a dry environment.

  • the trial is big and famous and people attend it for the excitement, power and fame and of course the prize money.

  • The environment consists of some trees and yellow-reddish soil and not much water.

  • The remains of previous crashes and mammals or bodies can be seen. With mammals it can be the tools that were on the mammal and the skeletons.

Setting

Main Structure

  • I made use of the heroine's journey

  • by ( 1-betrayal, 2-disguise as a man, 3-trialas race,4- winning without much wickedness, 5- falling to darkness, 6- cry and sorrow, 7- desire to be pure and free,8- choosing to accept the price and set free, 9-stop with the disguise and help Nino become free, 10- accept the power in her and the kindness and guilt. Let herself burn and set free)

  • The reason for using heroin's journey is that Laila character is a spiritual journey and carrying the guilt is like separation from the femininity in her. Not being able to accept herself. Feeling trapped.

Game beats structure

Also, the general flow was from the three-act structure

  • To have an intro (showing some mystery) some action and consequences (shown through conversation with Barda and tattoos), midpoint

  • (thinking that you can win without getting more wicked)

  • climax (sacrificing and falling to darkness)

  • resolution(you choose to burn.)

World building structure

I also followed the story genius to define the problem, goal, and backstory 

  • The reason is that I like having everything interconnected and having meaning and reason. It was important for me that the setting made sense.

  • For why these people are here, why they don't leave and why they need to go through the trial to be able to pass through the portal.
